Hi all,

Only recently started CJ and Im doing ok so far but finding the body rolls tough and the stalls even harder.

Im finding it much easier to toss the ball instead of stalling - for instance i find it much easier to roll up one arm to the elbow stalling point then toss it to the other elbow and roll it back down into my other hand - is this cheating? it feels like its kinda defeating the object of contact juggling and if thats true i will spend more time practicing stalling. Could somebody list the all of the common stalling points for me? Also is there a way to practice them in steps to make it easier?

Many Thanks Very Happy

It depends on what your routine requires. Remember that if there is a rule, break it Smile
I've seen people do tosses into stalls, behind the back, if it can be done, CJ usually does it

Maybe tosses into stalls are an easier way to practice for me, rolling into them requires arm strength and accuracy my muscles aren't up for just yet, especially on my left.

Just read ferrets stuff on flyaways and muscle memory again - gonna start practicing with my eyes closed more to get a 'feel' for the stalls. Very Happy

These are my stalls I practice most days. I would say they are pretty much the most common, not all are easy mind you.

Arm stalls- Wrist, outside elbow, inside elbow, inverted elbow, top elbow. Shoulder.
Head stalls- forehead, temples, top of the head(center, left and right), nose bridge.
Knee.

There are more I don't practice regularly. like the crook in the thumb and wrist, the wrist one with the arm inverted(i know, but I'm not going to draw a ascii picture of it ), back of the head, finger tip balance, various knuckle holds, eye sockets, cheeks, chin, ear, side of the knee, those wierd ones in the middle of the forearm. Not all are always really stalls, the back of the neck for example can be, but it can also be a hold/trap.

Tossing into a new stall is usually easier for me too.
tip: when you feel yourself losing the stall, fail into a cradle or another comfortable stall... if only there was somewhere to go from a foot stall...

here's my usual warmup sequence for getting a feel for a ball
1 - palm
2 - inner elbow
3 - cradle

1.5 (forearm)
2.5 (back forearm)
1.25 (wrist)
1.375
2.25 (back wrist)

fist/knuckle stalls

repeat w/ arm out sideways
repeat w/ arm facing across body... or get distracted and do something else, like club passing.

There is no sort of written set of rules defining what is and isnt contact juggling, tossing from stall to stall is an interesting way to play and i dont think you should try to discourage yourself.
stalls also dont neseccerely need to be linked by rolls or tosses maybe you could look into other methods of transfer aswell.

Thats some great advice you lot, thank you. Past few days ive practiced body rolling a lot with my eyes shut and im finding it a lot easier now. Had a great practice session today actually, was doing palm-elbow-fist-elbow-backhand -elbow-palm-repeat really fluidly as one motion and at one point seemed to isolate it which was quite exiting!...Bet ur all thinking newbies eh! Rolling Eyes

For now then gonna keep tossing and see what it inspires lol! Also taken a liking to throwing with added spin, when you get it fast enough some interesting ball paths seem possible - until the ball goes whizzing off into another fresh cup of tea of course, adding yet another brown splooge to the once cream carpet Very Happy
