I recieved three arcylic balls yesterday as a Christmas gift. I've been contact juggling for a while, and for some reason the acrylic balls made me finally want to figure out isolations. My questions is about where to look for isolations. Should I be looking at the balls trying to get them to stay still, or should I be focusing past the balls at what's behind them? Or should I just be not really focus on the balls at all and just keep on going until they seem isolated?

well i was playing around at a reggae night in my local the other night, and i always watch what im doing, maybe just coz its still all newish to me, but this guy took on role of my 'coach' hehe...telling me what i could do to make it look better etc...and he told me that when you look at them it looks sort of tense, like you're worrying about dropping the ball but if you dont look, it looks more effortless. i guess its a case of working out what works for you though. ive been practicing not looking since friday night, and just 'feeling' if its working out right.

I actually discovered watching in a mirror was a bit more helpful than the other ways I've tried on my own not too long after I posted my original message.
The whole not looking at all at the ball is beyond my skill level at this point. I understand that it probably looks more effortless, but I'm still at the point where the ball is moving all over. I need practice some more...

Ok... quick pointers. One looking at the ball can have its advantages, one being that people will wonder what your looking at thus in consequence see what your doing. The other advantage of looking at yourself is that you can see what your doing and correct yourself as you go. Now looking away is more of a way to develop muscle memory of an isolation, and they're some great topics on muscle memory development being sub-concious mumbo jumbo, anyways is that as you half pay attention to the sphere your hand will develop that feel for an isolation so you no longer see the isolation but feel it. I experiment with this occasionally by just starting with a palm iso or 3 ball whatever it may be, turn away, then turn back maybe a minute or too just using the feel of the ball to keep it in one spot.
So.. umm... yeah... fyi i pulled alot of that from Sensei Strange and Shifty... go you guys.

Hello!
In magic there's a general rule :
If you want them to look at the ball (or prop, ring, etc...), look at the ball yourself.
If you want them to look at you, look at them in the eyes...
This is a great attention management rule, that I use every time in CJ...
In fact, I believe that if it is well used, it can enhance any performance...

I was more or less going to say the exact same thing... Look at the ball for sure, the audience will be watching you, and if you look "intrigued" by the ball, they will immediately want to see what is so intriguing... |

When I started learning multi-ball isolation, (and I'm still not fantastic at it) I always looked at the ball I was trying to isolate. It works for me.
(But that's just for learning, of course. I wouldn't know what to do in front of an audience.  ) |

Even if you're blind, and wear black glasses, this universal rule of audience management will work...
Look at people, they'll look at your face.
Focus on the ball, they'll focus too on the ball.
Hmm, I didn't invent this, just applying it since years.
