so... It has been a dream of mine for a long time to be able to perform a hand to foot roll with a 4in sphere.

I have been experimenting and think that I am still a LONG way away from where I want to be. I think that I am going to have to twist my body in the middle of the chest to leg so that the sphere can roll on the outside of my leg. This is what I have so far.

If I lean back further to slow down the sphere I may be able to stall on my knee. But at the moment its all so blocky and looks like I doing some type of tribal dance (which could be fun!)

I am going from a chest roll, down the torso to the opposite leg of the start of the chest roll.

any ideas?

Probably be best to use the inside of your leg. Could end in an inside foot stall or probably just as easily on top.

Watch Francis Brunn, Or Jea9. And I think it appears on the nordic 9-1 DVD as well.

Slow it down.

Practice by breaking the roll up into little bits.

Practice balancing a ball on your knee (without the roll).

Practice foot catching.

Slow it down.

Work hard to get rid of the bump as the ball reaches your thigh from your stomach.

Lean back more.

Slow it down.

Break it down.

There is more than one way to roll from hand to foot. down the back, down the front, leg out the front, leg out to the side... (and if you think that's hard, try rolling the other way...)

I've heard Rumours of this move being included in a certain new book...

true.

Thank you very much for the advice on the full body roll... It is something that I have not seen before except for the "rythemic gymnastics" vid. (WHICH ROCKED).

I would love to get it down before christmas... Any othe additional help from anyone would be greatly appreciated...

Maybe if you did a chest roll and went into a full matrix roll around the torso, that would get the sphere heading in the right direction, then if you did a pirouette spin in the same direction of the roll when the sphere gets around your waist, it should start going straight instead of in a circle, so if you lifted your leg like a spinning roundhouse sort of move, the sphere should continue down the inside of your leg, and a slight inner pivot should pop the sphere up on top where you can catch it in a toe stall...

(Did that sound convincing? Cause I don't have any clue what I just said...)

It's in Franckfort with a 4"
http://www.ministryofmanipulation.com/blog/mika-quartz-franckfort/

It's a very good dream. but you won't "get it down" before christmas...unless you mean Christmas next year. I think you're under-estimating how hard this is!

hand to foot, down front - There were 5 people who could do it at BCJC this year, and I know another 3 europeans who do it.
Jeanine has it most solid of anyone I know.
Franck is amazing too.
Foot up to hand is (probably) easier Jeanine - has foot to hand up the front in balledanse and foot to hand with a cartwheel in the middle too.

You want advice, ok. I'll drip feed you some:
1)Drill 50 chest rolls in each direction every day
2) Drill at least 50 foot catches every day
come back when you've done those every day for a month/ or until clean

Drew
(Who's personal best so far on hand to foot is 9 times in a row.)

Lol! Well, I'm a gal, so I guess I wasn't too concerned 'bout that... ;P Actually, I just saw it flowing better if, after it's on your leg, you let it roll down the inside of your leg... nice straight, squishy surface. No knee to overcome. Like an inside arm roll...

all very well for those as can hold there leg horizontal, 25 years of cycling have shortened my hamstrings to the point that i can't get my foot high enough and stable enough to roll along.
i settle for roll down chest along thigh to knee and drop to foot.
it's still special, those three or four times i've managed it clean,
now i have to work on kick-up to forehead.

I got a hand to foot roll 5 times last week! It was a side roll, and I pop it up to loop it back around (Its harder to catch from the side, i think)...

But I have been working on that for two years, and there are still miles to go.

All three versions are worth it, but HARDCORE.

I say GIV'R!

I would love to see a vid from that. I think it would greatly help me out.
