I've looked everywhere for the answer to this question.

I'm trying to learn to roll the ball up and down my arm. Everywhere I look that says Arm Rolling it teaches how to stop it on the elbow. That's all well and good, and I've actually done it a couple times, however I'm so inconsitent with rolling the ball down my arm that I'm assuming those were flukes. What can I do to learn to roll the ball down the arm so that it doesn't fall of to either side?

You're going to just have to get a feel for it. For a practice tip, try picking up a broom or tennis racket and balance it on one hand. See how it sways from side to side? After you balance it for a bit, you'll be able to hold it pretty much upright in the air without making erratic movements in an effort to keep it up.

Same thing with rolling. Eventually you'll be able to feel out the tiny muscle movements that will keep that ball on the path you want it, and you'll even do it automatically. Just like every now and then you'll loose control of the upside down broom, you'll loose control of the ball. Just keep practicing and you'll get better though.

Try learning how to balance the ball on your elbow first, and roll it to your hand. It's much easier this way around, and will certainly help towards doing it the other way around.

Persevere! If you really want it, you'll get it.

I learned by rolling the ball from hand, down the arm to opposite hand waiting near the inside elbow and repeat.

At the same time, you need to get a feel for the inside elbow stall. place the ball in the dip in your elbow and practice just holding it there until it feels comfortable.
THen you can practice tossing the ball into the stall.

It takes a while before you body responds to the ball properly, as was stated above.

Keep trying! ALl things come to those who practice hard. Smile

Palm up arm rolls have been one of the easiest things to learn for me(not including elbow stalls). Just keep trying, it almost happened automatically...which sounds funny, but it's true. I dropped it a ton at first, but now it feels pretty easy.

Everyone's arms are different. Find the balance point and get to know it VERY WELL then try the rolls

*says this knowing its good, but still has little patience with stalls, and therefore isn't strong in this.

I've gotten to the point that I can roll it on the arm from palm to elbow, I can balance it on my elbow, and can roll it from elbow to palm with ease. Now my problem is slowing the ball down enough so that when it gets to my elbow it's slow enough for the stall and doesn't going flying past it. I was doing pretty good earlier today. I did 2 conesecutive elbow stalls missed about 4 times then had another one. Haven't been able to do it since.

that's awesome. The stall takes a while to get down. I've practicing for a month now and I still don't have it perfect.

Best way to slow the ball down is to not tilt your arm so much. Just takes practice. Pretty soon you'll be able to snail's pace the ball down your arm.

Smile

Keep on truckin my friend. and plan a trip to Hickory. We can practice together soon

I've been working on inner elbow stalls lately. Seems like once you can master those, it'll give you a whole load more control over your arm rolls...

I've actually gotten really good at this. I can just about stall it everytime I roll it. I was amazed when I tried it with the stage ball I got in the mail yesterday. It rolled to that spot on my inner elbow and just stopped like it was made to always be there.
