Does anyone know how to slow down these videos or know where I can find slower ones. I'm having a terrible time learning the windshield wiper.... I can go from palm to cradle (most of the time) but I can't go back. I just started learning a few days ago, but these videos are just so fast that I can't figure out how to do it. If you know, please help me.
I know that sounds really stupid, that I can't go from cradle to palm, but I can't... I was even kicked out of the house cause my mother said I was going to break something... so now, here I sit, my laptop in front of me, phone cord stretched as far as it can go, on the front lawn, about to cry cause I can't do it.
Thanks in advance,

um, dunno where slower ones are available. Its interesting that you can go from cradle to palm and not the other way around. For most people, catching in the cradle is the hardest part. My first question is which part of the hand are you going over. The tips of the fingers or around the index finger? For the tip of the finger start with your arm parallel to the ground and crossing your body; with the ball in the cradle. Work on fixing your elbow to one point(if it moves a little, or you have to move it's ok). start your hand going up like you are fanning yourself because its hot. The ball will continue to go up untill your cradle is no longer supporting it. The trick is to give the ball enough force to gently clear the tips of your fingers and begin its decent on the palm side. If there is a hop over your fingers just reduce the amount of force used little by little till it just makes it over. Then begin working on the other hand . _________________ much Love,

No, no, it's cradle to palm that I am having trouble with. Palm to cradle is about an 80% success rate... or 8 our of 10 times, I get it right. My right hand is the stronger one and the one that I am better at, but the left is catching up
From cradle to palm however, the ball tries to go around my hand, or my fingers start to curl, and in trying to fix that I drop the ball, which is why I'm looking for a slower video to watch, to see just how much if any, I can let my fingers curl. I want to do it right and not get into any bad habits right from the start.
As for my elbow, Yeah, it's pretty much all over the place, I'm hoping to fix that as soon as I can pull off the whole catching part.
Again, thank you so much. I must admit that I'm surprised people here are so nice to the ignorant newbies like myself. I'm used to being mocked for asking the dumb questions, or at least getting replies with a decidedly sarcastic tone. So a blanket thank you to all.
Forever grateful,

you should try and keep your fingers as straight as you can, because it looks better that way and it's a good habit to get into. If you curl your fingers, like you said it seems to make you drop the ball more.
If you can throw the ball in an arc from cradle to palm(or reverse) then all you really need to do is start using less and less force until your hand just travels under the ball. It took me a long time to learn this for the butterfly, because I was trying to roll the ball, when honestly it's more of a very controlled throw...in my case. I'm not really that good at it yet _________________ http://www.myspace.com/illumilatte

Yeah!!!! OMG! That's exactly what my problem was, I was trying to roll the ball over my hand, instead of throwing it. I knew it, but I didn't know it!!! Does that make sense? Not really, but whatever, I got it down and can do it... most times, though I'm still not allowed in the house. *shrugs* Whatever.... Thank you sooooo much for your help! Hugs and kisses to all. Yeah! *happy dance* |

excellent! Glad to hear you are getting it. It took me a week on my own to figure it out, since at the time i didnt have these kind folks to talk to. Sorry if my post was confusing but my directions were from cradle to palm.

most tricks are like this, where if you get the basic principle and then you jus have to practice to let your muscles grasp it.
its mostly the practice part _________________ Reminisce
