Hello!
In fact it's not exactly about "behind the neck roll" that I've got a question it's more especially about quite the same but the ball roll on the thorax and not behind the neck.
I just can't manage to roll the ball. Indeed, on every videos that I saw, the arm is wry, but mine just stay tight. I don't know how to do to resolved this "problem".
If someone could help me and explain me. Thank you.

ps: I'm french...sorry for my English.

This will show you some basic tips on how to get started. Get some arm-rolls solid first as this will give you a good base to work off.

The most important thing is just to give it a go with the biggest ball that you have access to. You should get one by accident quite quickly.

If you have a little sister or brother around, try stealing his/her small basket ball or this kind of cheap ball with the Lion king or shrek on it. It should be the right size. In a friend's garden we found a half sized basketball from the children and it's pretty cool to practice.

If you don't use this kind of bigger ball like briney adviced, it will surely take you longer to get it and you will find it harder too. And you may develop some bad habits like moving your arms around crazily... Like me. And trust me, bad habits are hard to overwork Sad .

I just buy an advertisement tennis ball (you know a big one on which tennis players sign at Rolland Garros etc...) Do you think it's a good ball?

I think I'm on my way to master ths Chestroll with the big ball Very Happy
But I tried to do it with my ball (76mm) and it was so hard Confused.
Do you think I should try with balls getting smaller and smaller or something like that?

Yeah, as soon as you feel confortable with it, it's just that the smaller the ball the harder it gets to control. Some freaks practice with balls almost like marbles Laughing .

Sorry, but I don't understand what you're saying with "balls almost like marbles" Embarassed
Does it mean that I must find balls much more heavy than mine? (Or maybe it was a private joke? Very Happy )
Anyway, I've got one more question. It's about the arms. During this trick do I have to make a move with all the arm or just step by step? I mean, all the arm is moving or do I have to lean the hand and roll the ball on the cradle then lean my fore arm then lean the arm etc ... ? Confused

This may not help. There are two methods of doing what you are asking. One is having the ball rolling around with a starting push/pull from your begining craddle, give a slight push with the same shoulder to get it across the chest, and lower the opposing arm slightly so the ball travels down to the final hand. The other is sort of doing an isolation where the ball pretty much stays in one spot and you move under the ball in a circle, much like a human conveyor belt(think super market check out only circular). the second method is significantly harder in my opinion. I have heard with the first method that if you take a step back with foot of the same side as the hand you started with as it reaches the should leaving the oposite foot where it was it acheives the same as the shoulder push.

That is how it was explained to me, however it was in person and not online and in a language i spoke frequently.

Dan

I'm not sure which part of the phrase was confusing you, so I'll try to explain clearly for translation.

When he says "almost like marbles" he is referring to the size of a marble rather than what is is made of.

A marble is a very tiny glass ball. He means that you start with a large ball and when you can do it well use a smaller ball. Some people are so good(or crazy) that they practice using balls as small as marbles.

As an example of size, here is a picture of some children playing with marbles: http://www.mexicanpictures.com/archives/photos/amdo/marbles.jpg

hopefully that will help clear it up Wink

I'm so sorry, you know I'm French and I didn't know what "marble" really mean. I though it was the "rock" like in every castles that decorated the floors and the walls. Now I understand this sentence! (I feel so stupid... Embarassed)

Sorry for the confusion guys. But yeah, when you can do it fine with a big ball, you can try smaller, then smaller, then smaller, then... I've never seen anyone doing it with a marble anyway... yet. (I tried with a malteaser sweet but couldnt go anywhere... I should get it right with my 4 inches first I think Very Happy )
