I'm kinda new to the whole contact juggling thing,so here's a question that I want some advanced opinions on.I'm currently trying to learn the butterfly move"palm to backhand cadle transfer"and I have really long pointed nails....Don't ask,my claws are my weapon of choice.Anyway,I can't seem to get a desent roll with the ball.Could it be my claws?I'm willing to cut my claws to learn this move. But I was wondering if any jugglers with long nails have a problem with this move or if it's just me.I'm currently wearing leather gloves to round my fingertips, but I still can't do this move.So can someone give me some advice, should I cut the claws,or does it not matter and I just need more practice?

I’d say cut the nails and make an acrylic your weapon of choice.
I think you’ll find that will be the first of many sacrifice’s your make for contact juggling. I had ¾ inch plugs in my ears until I realized they got in the way of head rolls. Taking them out was well worth it.

It would be waaaay better to lose them, they will always grow back!

Many sacrifices have been made for CJ. Some folks even cut their dreadlocks off.. Shocked

well my hair is about 3 feet long and it does cause some issues but theres generally ways around things. but in this case its hard. ive got some guitar pick that emulate long nails and it is possible to pull it off, its just not practical, and you risk injuring your nails and scratching the ball. its all up to you.

I've never had claws, although I have taught people who have.

I tend to think that while learning....it is better to clip them, but once you have it down, and are comfortable with the basic movements, then feel free to grow your weopons back.
Just keep practicing every day while they grow.
And the transition will be smooth and you will learn what you can and can't get away with...
Personally I don't see you not getting away with any move, once you get used to it...claws or no claws.

As for Long Hair....Haaa!!!

I laugh at you all...grin...

Before I went back in the Military, my bangs were past my elbows, and I could tuck the back of my hair into my back pocket of my jeans. And I never had a problem.

I never wore rings, or watches, however...
Nasty scratchy, bumpy things that take away from the purity of The Art.

That's just one weasel's opinion....grin

I can tie my dreadlocks up in a topknot and it stays out of the way of behind the neck stuff.

Stickman you had problems with headrolls because of gauged ears? Question
I'm at 1" currently and of the problems I have with headrolls, the ears aren't part of them.

As for nails, I've grown them out and cut them short, and it really didn't make much of a difference for me.
