|
|
I've started working on an isolation based around moving the ball in a circle on the back of my hand (like the standard palmspinning iso, but on the other side). It seems possible, but I havn't seen or heard of somebody doing this before (not suprizing, I'm new).
Has anyone tread this territory, and have any tips? |

It's possible,.. I'm getting close and I've seen an italian guy in a wheelchair (i beleive it was ejc Grenoble) do them much better.
I start learning by doing a regular palm iso in one hand, and then loading the ball (still isolated) onto the back of the fingers of the other hand and making one (1) back of the hand circle. As the ball reaches the side of the hand of the loading finger I flip the hand and continue with a palm iso. Then the other hand does the backof the hand iso.
Doing continious back of the hand iso's seems much harder then the 'half' back of the hand iso that I currently do, but I'm working on them.

I think there are a couple of examples of it floating about in some of silvers videos, the bjc ones and in the ejc one from a long while back.
I put in a few hours over the years on these. mine suck. I could see it being possible to get reasonable, And Drews idea of very clean is about as close to isolated as physicaly possible by most human standards. |

single back of hand isolations aren't that hard. especially when moving the ball laterally across the body.
its also possible like this (this is kinda complicated)
holding the ball in the palm, facing the ground, flick the ball onto the back of the hand (roll it up the side of the hand opposite the thumb) the ball will spin, and if you spin it properly it will roll around in a circle on the back of the hand. with a correct counter movement, you can do a perfect isolation.
unfortunatly that only lasts as long as the spin. but its wicked to join arm rolls, etc |

back of hand isolations are in my list of things not to bother learning.
i will copy the entry in my book of forbidden contact juggling here:
trick: back of hand isolation.
objections:
1. from more that 3 meters away it is impossible to see, wether it is on the back of the hand or the front. in violation of the important principle that the audience are not contact jugglers and don't realy care what youre doing as long as it looks nice)*
2. limited posture possibilities, see entry contact juggling like golum*
3. insanely dificult to make solid, since the regular palm circle isolation is already really hard to isolate properly.(like realy properly, not just "oh its a bit like its floating" isolated)
*on these points i am happy to be proven wrong. |

Actually I think they still look very skillfull even if the isolation isn't perfect. As long as it can create a floating effect (its on the back of the hand for christ sake!!!) and isn't bumpy. Bumps = bad contact juggling. But we all know that.
I think unisewan has it right for the most part. But only if your gearing all your manipulation to be seen from any sort of distance. I bet on stage it doesn't work that great |

My friend has fingers that when fully splayed bend back quite far, maybe even twenty degrees off. Creates a quite nice bowl which would, I'm sure, help with a back of the hand iso. Now all I need to do is teach her to CJ... _________________ If you aren't a part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate. |

This is the site: http://www2s.biglobe.ne.jp/~sebas/jve.htm for this crazy Japanese guy who does a two ball back of hand separated spin, among other zaniness.[/url]
Additionally, one of the tricks I'm trying to develop/figure out is an alternating palm/back of hand isolation, so the ball just floats back and forth between the two sides of the hand. |

Wow, thanks for the link. Definitely one to go in my favorites. With just my initial skimming of the material, I find I am a little scared by the "Sole bridge." _________________ If you aren't a part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate. |
