I believe in learning things in levels. Information learned while performing an easier version of a task will still apply to harder versions. If something is difficult, often learning can be sped up by making it easier, or giving yourself a "crutch." Once you're comfortable performing the task with the crutch, take the crutch away. Often you'll find you're miles closer to learning the task than you were before you let yourself hobble along on that crutch for a while.
I see where you're coming from, but it's not always true. Look at the 1b palm spin iso. It's easiest with a 4" acrylic and you can learn it with a 4" acrylic, but when you go to do it with a smaller and lighter ball it's not going to be so easy. The 4" acrylic has different properties than a small and/or lighter ball and you'll basicly have to relearn how the smaller/lighter ball spins before you can get the iso. The same's true for this. Using a bandana or not is the same basic idea, but using a bandana has a different property than not. If you've learned with the bandana then you try with out it you're basicly going to have to relearn the stall all over again because you're going to have to learn the properties of your hair (or if you're bald, you head).http://contactjuggling.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.html?p=46965#46965xdavidxTue Dec 18, 2025 2:37 pmhttp://contactjuggling.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.html?p=46965#46965The CJ.org "I just learnt a new move" Thread

This is the place I went to in Tucson to buy my ball. I picked out a purple UV, heavy dye, but it was in perfect shape. The UV was splotchy so I returned it. They were very nice and I looked at their other 3" balls. They looked like they were used as displays or something from a few scratches on it. I picked out a red ball for $39.99 with no marks, bubbles or imperfections on it. It was expensive, but evens out considering I didn't pay shipping. I love it. I recommend this store only if you can go in person, they don't always have the balls in stock that are listed online. If you do go, they give you a flaming business card, but they put it out before they will hand it to you.

Quality 3/10 - Some scratches on a few and UV was uneven, but they carry great stage balls!
Service 10/10 - Didn't ask for a receipt and paid me the difference in price in cash.http://contactjuggling.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.html?p=46938#46938DizzTue Dec 18, 2025 12:08 amhttp://contactjuggling.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.html?p=46938#46938Nika on Buzzcocks Everyone!

Heh, it's one of the rigid buggers - I can squish it a bit with my hands, but it takes a lot of pressure to do it. Though yeah, an acrylic living on top of it wouldn't do its spherical integrity any good. As it is, my practice ball and stage balls sit on top of the acrylics (which are in bags), so they've not got pressure bearing down on them for above. Though I guess gravity could have an effect, though not sure how much of an effect in this instance. Might be an interesting experiment. http://contactjuggling.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.html?p=46928#46928RedsterMon Dec 17, 2025 8:22 pmhttp://contactjuggling.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.html?p=46928#46928Principle and theory
I don't have Drew's book in front of me at the moment, but there is a line in it along the lines of "you're not so much moving the ball, as creating a space for the ball to move into." (Sorry Drew for paraphrasing poorly.) That line comes specifically in the discussion of palmcircles, but I think can be generalized to serve as a cj principle.
I couldn't agree with this sentiment more. I've had to do a few shows that were longer, albeit we had multiple performers with a variety of skills.

How to turn 1 trick into a 5 minute routine?
Add a story. Be a character, whether the gentleman juggler trying to impress a wily woman, or a comic whiteface who can't do anything properly (looking clumsy while pulling off moves, like Isolate a ball, but pretend it is "stuck" and you want it unstuck)

Need a 20 min segment? Seperate into three 5 minute acts, giving a couple min between each act to arrange props.

Sounds easy now that you don't have to worry about hundreds of tricks to fill a 20 minute set, right? Good luck, try writing it out in Notepad.http://contactjuggling.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.html?p=46910#46910DeI2anGeDSun Dec 16, 2025 8:46 pmhttp://contactjuggling.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.html?p=46910#46910Starting a juggling group - Advice needed

I'd have to agree with the easy name, Crack Juggling Squad is nice and people will know what it is at first glance. My juggling group in Springfield, MO was initially called "Johnny Asterisk and the Capital Eights." People thought we were a band. I do agree with Rich that the wikipedia article fairly sucks.
I considered getting involved and rewriting it, but decided that it was beyond hope!
So I started writing my own:
http://www.ministryofmanipulation.com/articles/
But I've slightly run out of steam having got half way! I'd like to add another 3 pages over christmas - they're half written.

Rich I see that you are having a fair old argument on the talk area.
If you (or anyone else) are getting into editing it you may find it helpful to cite references from "Multiball Contact" particularly the history/ appendix section. Mr Rray will have trouble arguing with that! (although he will probably tell you that "Multiball" is not a word) or cite the ministry articles.
Good luck - I'm keeping out.
